Divine Realm Vegetarian Restaurant

One of the place we frequent as we stay in the north east area in Singapore. Address at Blk 501 Hougang Ave 8 opposite Hougang swimming pool.

A disappointment that the noodles are no longer handmade and the sound of the dough hitting the hard surface is no longer heard. Noodles are slightly softer lacking the 'q'ness of fresh lamian.

Price has risen. Each bowl generally about $4.50 for lamian. Looks like they are concentrating on their zichar with stir fried dishes cost about $8/$14.

Open at 8.30am, we were the 1st customers arriving 15 min earlier. Ordered  dandan lamian (spicy sauce noodle) and curry noodle.

The dan dan noodle is good. They finally got it right with the sauce and the ingredients is now well soaked with the spicy sauce. Thumbs up for this.

Curry noodles no longer taste good. I wouldn't recommend it. Besides having very little ingredient of potato and veg mutton,  the curry taste starchy as if there's cornstarch mixed in and has a strange tinge of soury taste.

Favourite Veg Noodle Stall in Singapore

By chance, I discovered that my favourite vegetarian noodle soup stall in Singapore  moved from circuit road hawker to Tampines Mall Foodcourt.

Ban mian(flat noodle) or You mee(thin noodle) comes with clear broth, tom yam, bak kuh teh or dry. still the generous serving of vegetables - a rare thing with Singapore noodles sold in hawker or food courts.

The Bakery Chef

Head down for cakes at The Bakery Chef located Blk 161 Bukit Merah Central.
We shared the choclate cupcake, kalamasi cake and green tea cake. The green tea cake taste good with red bean in between the green tea sponge adding crunch. The kalamsi cake has a natural citrus flavour that is really refreshing. Choclaholics would love the rich choclate cupcake.

Elemen at Thomson Plaza

Went to Elemen at Thomson Plaza after recommendation by my mum who prefer the food there than sufood. She is right! The Japanese and Asian food were really good.

2 of us picked the 5 course meal for 23.80 includes appetizer, salad or soup, main, dessert, drink. The other person picked the 7 course meal.

The standard appetizer set comes with 3 different small shaped appetizer with recommended eating sequence. Mmm. Refreshing.

Herbal soup is nice..a strong mushroom taste, great for mushroom lovers like me. Salad is good.  Forgot to take pictures until the mains. Perhaps because the soup and salad is not spectacular.

I loved all the mains we picked.

Braised pumpkin stew with glutinous rice in hotstone. Loved the crispy glutinous rice the most. It went really well with the pumpkin based stew.

The tea toufu wheat noodle with the natural tomato soup maybe blend for some but great for me as I could taste the natural ingredients without the overuse of sauces.

Avocado roll never fails with the perfect mixture of mayo and teriyaki sauce.

I'm not a fan of the Italian fusion there. Taste too asian for me.  My other friends who tried the western mains had the same sentiments.

Really liked the floral tea. Comes with real dried flowers not tea bags like some cafes.

Dessert is ok. The local flavoured desserts can't fight with our local stalls.but taste alright. I like the jelly because it's not sweet with the sugars but with the natural ingredients.

Would visit again and try the other mains.

Enjoy Soup at The Soup Spoon

The Soup Spoon used to be one of my regular dinner place for good soup as light dinner. The 4 vegetarian options still remain when I returned to Singapore with other new options -

Tangy Tomato with Basil

Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff

Meatless Minestrone

Roasted Pumpkin

Vegan Doenjang Tteokguk

Click on the link above and you can find out more.

Tried the mushroom and the tomato soup last night. Still as good but the tomato soup seems to be spicier than what I knew. Maybe my palate has changed for spicy food after staying in Australia for a while?

There's more options for sides too.  The different sets and options - half half, breadbowl, sandwich, salad, flatbread or cake. Yummy........ I look forward to many more of my expedition there.
